WikiLeaks releases CIA director's private emails
Documents from John Brennan's account not classified, came from time when not working for government
The WikiLeaks whistleblowing website released late Wednesday private emails belonging to CIA Director John Brennan, local media reported.
The six emails relate to a period between 2007 and 2008 when Brennan was working in the private sector but still contain insights into his thinking on issues such as the U.S. relationship with Iran and also mentions interrogation techniques.
However, the correspondence was largely mundane and the CIA said it did not include any classified information.
One 2007 document titled The Conundrum of Iran condemned the “gratuitous labeling of Iran as part of an 'axis of evil' by President Bush” following the 2001 terror attacks on the U.S., Voice of America reported.
The paper recommended the next president should “tone down” rhetoric about Iran.
“Iran’s importance to U.S. strategic interests and to overall stability in the region necessitates the establishment of direct and senior-level dialogue,” Brennan wrote.
