Sales of two types of Volkswagen diesel car are to be banned in Turkey from Tuesday, Industry Minister Fikri Isik said in a TV interview.
The announcement follows the German auto giant’s admission last month that some of its diesel cars had been equipped with software to cheat emissions tests and the announcement that 11 million cars would be recalled worldwide.
Isik told broadcaster NTV that sales of Jetta and Caddy models, which are fitted with 1.6-litre EA 189 engines, would be stopped for an indefinite period.
“This is a voluntary halt,” he said. “After the technical updates, sales will restart.”
