Trump announces Middle East phone call with Erdogan
US president tweeted that he would be calling Turkish leader later Friday
U.S President Donald Trump will speak to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later Friday, Trump announced on Twitter.
“Will be speaking to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey this morning about bringing peace to the mess that I inherited in the Middle East,” he tweeted, in an apparent reference to the Obama administration.
“I will get it all done, but what a mistake, in lives and dollars (6 trillion), to be there in the first place!”
The tweet was sent at 7.04 a.m. Washington time (1204GMT).
Trump did not outline the detail of the planned conversation but earlier this week Erdogan was in Sochi to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani for talks on Syria.
During the meeting at the Black Sea resort, the three leaders meet agreed on gathering a congress of Syrian groups to advance a political solution for the war-torn nation.
