On December 29, 1994, Boeing 737-400 type '' Mersin '' THY aircraft took off from Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 13:52 with 7 crew members and 69 passengers during the Ankara - Van flight. The Ankara return call made by Van Air Traffic Control was rejected by the captain pilot Adem Uygun because of the decrease in visibility due to fog and its type and the landing became risky. After two landing attempts of the pilot, who insisted on his decision, he made a third attempt. At 15:30, he fell on Kale Hill, 13 kilometers from Van. 5 of the 76 people on the plane in the accident, a total of 57 people died.
