Policeman martyred in PKK attack in SE Turkey

At least one police officer was martyred in a suspected PKK attack in the Sur district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir late Wednesday.

According to local security sources, the officer was wounded as police, who were filling ditches, removing barricades and defusing explosives planted by the terror group PKK in Sur, were attacked.

He succumbed to injuries at Diyarbakir Military Hospital.

Sur, along with Cizre district of southeastern Sirnak province, are among areas that have been the focus of counter-terror operations and military curfews since mid-December 2015. 

Since then, more than 700 terrorist were killed in Diyarbakir and Sirnak, 153 in Sur district alone, and over 250 members of the security forces have been martyred.
