Iraqi media interpreter released from Turkish prision
Mohammed Ismael Rasool had been arrested with British journalists from Vice News
A Turkish court on Tuesday released an Iraqi interpreter arrested with two British journalists in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir more than four months ago, a judicial source said.
Mohammed Ismael Rasool was released under judicial control by the Diyarbakir Fourth Criminal Court of Peace. He still faces a trial on terror charges.
He had been mostly held in prison in Adana province following his Aug. 27 arrest alongside Vice News journalists Jake Hanrahan and Philip Pendlebury for “knowingly and willfully helping the armed terrorist organization without being a part of its hierarchical structure” - a reference to the PKK, which renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July.
Hanrahan and Pendlebury were released and deported within days of their arrest.
