The Indian PM, who is also the leader of India’s right wing Hindu-majority party BJP, tells UK rally that Islam’s Sufi tradition can be antidote to terror
India can show the world the path towards fighting against terrorism and global warming, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address to thousands of people at the Wembley Stadium in London on Friday.
Modi, who is on his second day of visit to the U.K., said: "Responsibility to fight terrorism and global warming is every human's and every nation's. India can show the world the path to fight both terrorism and global warming. We are already on that path and we will stick to it".
The Indian premier, who is also the leader of India’s right wing Hindu-majority Bharatiya Janata Party, said that Islam’s Sufi tradition could be an antidote to terrorism.
"The Sufi tradition is the best antidote to terrorism. If the Sufi tradition is strong, people who have understood Sufi tradition in Islam, those people don't take guns in their hands," he said.
Earlier, British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha Cameron welcomed the Indian premier at the stadium.
"Team India and team U.K. together we are a winning combination. They say a chaiwallah never governed the world but he proved them wrong," Cameron said. "Won't be long before there is a British Indian PM at Downing Street," he added as a crowd gathered outside the stadium protested the Indian leader’s visit.
Modi also had lunch with the Queen at Buckingham Palace and held meetings with business leaders before the rally at the stadium.
