The Kardak Crisis, which started on December 29, 1995, started with the discussion of which side to rescue a Turkish boat sitting on the Kardak rocks on December 27. In those days, Turkey, Greece, giving the note, the Imia rocks reported that it belonged to Turkey. The incident, which exploded as a result of the dispute between the Turkish and Greek rescue teams as a result of the Turkish-flagged cargo ship named Figen Akat landing on the Kardak Rocks, turned into a diplomatic and military crisis. The two countries were on the brink of war. The Greek newspaper Gramma made the incident public on 20 January 1996 for the first time. About 10 years after the events, a second crisis emerged as the Greek fishermen approached the area.
