Egypt’s Sisi under fire for defending low voter turnout

Egyptian media figures have opened fire on President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi over his defense of the low voter turnout in the country’s parliamentary polls, calling on him to take lessons from the Turkish elections.

The first round of Egypt’s parliamentary elections held two weeks ago saw a low voter turnout where only 26.5 percent of voters cast their ballot.

On Sunday, Sisi came out to defend the low turnout, arguing that Egyptian voters felt “bored” from the polls.
