Children hurt in PKK attack on library in SE Turkey

At least four children have been hurt as PKK terrorists mounted an assault on a library in southeastern Sirnak province.

An Anadolu Agency reporter on site reported that the incident on early Friday occurred when terrorists threw handmade explosives and Molotov cocktails into the Sirnak Cultural Center and Public Library while there were staff and students inside.

Four children who were injured were taken to hospital by emergency medical teams.

Fire teams and water cannon brought a blaze in the building under control.

Security forces have launched an operation to find those responsible.

A counter-terrorism operation has been continuing in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir, Sirnak and Mardin, with curfews declared to fight the terrorists nested in citizens' homes.

As part of the operation, more than 200 terrorists from PKK have been killed since Dec. 15, according to military sources.

A curfew was imposed on Cizre and Silopi last Monday. Many citizens left the district before the curfew, which became the scene of clashes between security forces and PKK terrorists.

The PKK – considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its armed campaign in late July.

Since then, more than 200 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed.
