The leaders of Japan and South Korea met in Seoul this weekend and agreed to resolve differing views of history that have hampered a repair in relations.
Other issues impacting the North Asian neighbors -- such as Korea joining the new Trans Pacific Partnership on trade, rising tensions in the South China Sea, and North Korean provocations -- took a back seat as the two countries sought to resolve the thorny issue of “comfort women”.
Such women were enslaved by Japan to provide sex for its troops during World War II, and the legacy has long been a major hurdle to improving relations.
