World Cup: Argentina advance to Round of 16

Argentina have advanced to Round of 16 in World Cup after beating Nigeria 2-1 in a thrilling match at Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Argentina took the lead early as Lionel Messi scored his first goal of the tournament in the 14th minute. Nigeria leveled the score in the second half with Victor Moses' penalty kick.

Defender Marcos Rojo emerged in the 86th minute as the unlikely hero for Argentina to strike a volley to the cross from the right.

Argentina finished the Group D at second place, while Nigeria were eliminated.

In the other match of the group, Croatia defeated Iceland 2-1 to keep their winning streak alive. They have now won all of their matches.

Iceland, on the other hand, were eliminated and finished the group at bottom after collecting only 1 point.

Argentina will face France in Round of 16 and Croatia will face Denmark.
