Turkish soldier martyred in PKK attack
Soldier martyred in SE Sirnak province
A soldier has been martyred during a counterterrorism operation in southeastern Turkey, a military official said Monday.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said the security forces had been running a counterterror operation in the Sirnak province.
During the operations, PKK terrorists detonated explosives injuring the Turkish soldier.
The soldier was rushed to Sirnak State Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds, sources said.
Anti-terror operations are ongoing in the region.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of 1,200 security personnel and civilians.
