A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday for Turkey's new embassy building in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim attended the ceremony during his official visit to the country, where he will visit Rohingya camps and observe Turkey's humanitarian activities.

Yildirim was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag, Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya, and other Turkish officials.

The Turkish Embassy in Dhaka was opened in 1976 and the Embassy of Bangladesh in Ankara in 1981.

The new building will be constructed by Turkey-based Epik Construction Company in a diplomatic complex, where the U.S., Canada, Saudi Arabia and South Korea have already their embassies.

The construction is expected to be completed by April 2019.
