Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day looking up
BIST 100 index climbs over 200 points compared to Friday's close
Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.27 percent or 239.78 points to open at 90,675.11 points on the last transaction day of the year.
On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 0.59 percent to close the day at 90,435.33 points with a daily trading volume of 3.1 billion Turkish liras ($594.7 million).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.2850 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with last week's closing rate of 5.2720.
The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.0430, versus 6.0490 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.6980 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.7060 by market close on Friday.
The price of Brent oil rose to $54.06 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday, versus $52.77 on Friday's closing.
The benchmark stock index will be closed on Tuesday due to New Year's Day.
