Turkey: PKK terrorists get over 1,000 years behind bars
3 terrorists behind deadly 2016 attack sentenced to about a dozen aggravated life sentences plus 893 years in prison
A Turkish court Monday sentenced three PKK terrorists to over 1,000 years in prison each for a 2016 attack that martyred 12 people, half of them police officers.
The Istanbul court sentenced Eyup Sever, Murat Bal, and Gulsen Bahadir to about a dozen aggravated life sentences each for the deliberate killing of 12 people and for violating the Constitution.
The June 7, 2016 attack in Vezneciler, Istanbul targeted two riot police transports.
The three were also sentenced to 893 years in prison for intentionally killing and possessing dangerous goods without permission for their actions against 44 people injured in the Vezneci attack.
In 2018 the court ordered red notices to be issued for the arrest of 12 wanted suspects – including the three senior PKK terrorists – over the terror attack.
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people.
