Turkey: One soldier martyred, five injured in operation
Turkish military says 21 PKK terrorists were also killed in Tuesday operation
A soldier was killed and five others injured during counter-terrorism operations in Turkey’s southeastern Diyarbakir province’s Sur district on Wednesday.
Troops were conducting operations to remove PKK trenches and barricades in the under-curfew district. No further details were offered by the military.
Meanwhile, the Turkish General Staff announced that 21 PKK terrorists were killed during counter-terrorism operations in the southeastern provinces of Bitlis, Sirnak and Diyarbakir on Tuesday.
The military added that a soldier who was severely wounded in a clash with PKK terrorists on Dec. 20 in Sirnak had died of his injuries in an Ankara-based military hospital early on Wednesday.
In another incident on Tuesday in Sirnak’s Cizre district, a local village guard said the PKK terrorists shot dead a 53-year-old mother of nine at her home.
The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign in late July. Since then, more than 200 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed.
