Trump says he will be leaving hospital later Monday
'Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life,' says US president
US President Donald Trump said he will be leaving later Monday a military hospital in the state of Maryland where he is receiving treatment for the novel coronavirus.
"I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life," Trump said on Twitter.
"We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!" he added.
Dr. Sean Conley, one of the physicians treating the president at Walter Reed, acknowledged Trump will be discharged from the hospital Monday evening, but cautioned "he may not entirely be out of the woods yet."
“We’re in a bit of uncharted territory when it comes to a patient that received the therapies he has so early in the course. So we’re looking to this weekend, if we can get through to Monday, with him remaining the same or improving, better yet, then we will all take that final deep sigh of relief,” he said.
Trump will receive a fifth dose of Remdesivir, an experimental antiviral drug, before he leaves the hospital, and a sixth dose at the White House on Tuesday, Dr. Brian Garibaldi, another doctor treating the president said.
He continues to receive Dethamexazone, a steroid, as part of his treatment, according to Garibaldi.
Trump, 74, announced early Friday that he and First Lady Melania tested positive for the novel coronavirus, hours after Hope Hicks, one of his closest aides who traveled with him as recently as Wednesday, tested positive for COVID-19.
The president was taken to Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday evening, while his oxygen levels dropped on Friday and Saturday.
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany announced earlier Monday that she also tested positive for the novel coronavirus, marking the latest high-profile Republican to announce their diagnosis.
