Russian army to regularly hold drills in Mediterranean

Russian Defense Ministry will hold military exercises in the Mediterranean Sea on a regular basis, the defense minister said Friday.

"Such exercises will be held on a regular basis", Sergey Shoygu said at a working meeting at the General Staff in Moscow. 

The "Ocean Shield" drill in the Mediterranean, with participation of the Russian air and naval forces, took place in September.

The exercise was the first military drill in Russia's modern history in the region.
