A man has been arrested after a series of stabbings at Leytonstone underground station in London Saturday evening, Metropolitan Police said.

"We are treating this as a terrorist incident," Commander Richard Walton, of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command said in a statement.

"Police were called at 19:06hrs... to reports of a number of people stabbed at the station," according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police.

"One man has sustained serious knife injuries; these are not believed at this stage to be life-threatening. Two other people have sustained minor injuries," the statement also said.

The attacker was taken to a police station in East London and remains in custody.

"I would urge the public to remain calm, but alert and vigilant," said Commander Walton.

He said: "Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command are now investigating the attack as a 'terrorist incident'."
