Pandemic increased demand for bird
Those trapped began to feed birds out of boredom. Both the increase in demand and the halt in imports have increased their little voices. Stating that the demand for the budgerigar has increased the most, the phatshopists said that the bird prices in Konya increased from 40-50 lira to 70-80 lira.
Best friends for some, best friend to others, the sales of birds increased. As such, production became unaffordable. Saying that they had difficulty keeping up with the incoming demand, they said that they could not find birds to sell, and the prices increased slightly due to the lack of imports.
‘THEY ARE MANUFACTURERS WHICH INCREASE THE CLASS’
The owner of Nesil Aquarium Phatshop, Birol Kaya, who said that the price increase is free, said, “The demand for the bird is time for him, but currently there are not too many birds as imports are closed. Our most demanded bird species are the budgerigar, sultan's parrot and lovebird. These are both affordable and more convenient to talk. It is in such a high demand. Prices increased slightly due to both the increase in demand and the lack of imports. There are not many birds currently on the market. Prices would not be high if the door of imports were open and imports were free. High prices because we do not have a little domestic birds. The reason people prefer birds is that they are slightly easier to keep than cats and dogs. When the import was free, bird prices were 50 lira and now the price is 75-80 lira. Budgerigar prices are said to be 150 in the news. Seeing this, the local people increase the wholesale price up to 100 lira. There is a budgie called Jumbo and its price is 150 lira. But it is very normal for its price to be high. "We are giving up our profits and selling".
‘WE CANNOT FIND BIRDS TO SELL’
Stating that there are not many birds left to sell on the market, Pasha Phatshop Owner Ahmet Deveci said, “I am also a gloster breeder. I was in the Management of Ornithology Canaryists Association. Gloster race in Turkey throughout the contest my medals up to 15 branches located in the canary. I am also a painter and musician. I'm interested in the beautiful thing. The demand for the bird has increased compared to the past. There was an increase in bird prices due to both demand and lack of imports. The local tip also took this opportunity. Budgerigar, sultan and lovebird are most in demand. But these are not much in the market anymore. We are constantly asked about these bird species, but we cannot find a bird to sell. Budgies have a speaking feature. It is a slightly more human species. A friend in the house sees a command. It was said in the news that the price of the budgie is 150 TL, but this is not the case. We sell it for 75-80 liras. Our earnings are the same, we do not earn much profit. "People are forced into 75-80 liras anyway," he said.
‘DEMAND INCREASED 100 PERCEN’
Stating that it is from the pandemic period because the demand for the bird has increased 100 percent, Tarçın Akvaryum Phatshop Owner Halit Yanar said, “People are alone at home and the number of live animals talking is very low. Since everyone is feeding a talking creature, these lovebirds are in high demand. Before the pandemic, our lovebirds were around 40-50 lira. So you could find budgies even for 35 lira. Currently, the lowest price is 70-80 lira and the average price is between 90 and 100. There is no word on feed prices or bird food prices. Our prices have increased because they cannot raise birds. Our most demanding bird species are parakeets and parrots. They come from the same class of paradise parrots. Heaven and love do not have much ability to speak, but their prices are a little higher. Parrot prices start from 600-700 lira and go up to 20 thousand lira. Family and lovebird are the species that can be found up to 200-300 lira ”.
‘ANIMAL IS HAPPY AS IT CAN BE LOOKED’
"If people want to gift a live animal to their relatives, this guide must be sure that they can look at that animal," said Halit Yanar, "The animal will be as happy as it can be looked after. The number of animals on the street in Europe, while in Turkey the figure is much too little. I have been running a phatshop for about 9 years. There were times when the birds became worthless. Live animals should not be devalued, but a bird was sold for 8-9 lira. The number of birds coming from abroad was not clear. Birds were coming from the vault. "There has never been a time when he was so precious", he ended his words.
