Netherlands: Total coronavirus cases near 25,000

The number of coronavirus cases in the Netherlands has risen to more than 24,400, while the death toll now stands at over 2,600, authorities announced on Saturday.

A total of 1,316 new cases were confirmed in the country, raising the overall tally to 24,413, according to the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment.

Of the total, 8,386 patients are under treatment at hospitals, with 189 more admissions reported on Saturday.

The COVID-19 death toll climbed to 2,643 after 132 more patients lost their lives.

After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, the virus has spread to at least 185 countries and regions.

The pandemic has killed nearly 104,000 people, and infected in excess of 1.7 million, while nearly 390,000 patients have recovered, according to figures compiled by the U.S.’ Johns Hopkins University.
