Mosque preacher shot dead in Yemen’s Aden
No group claimed responsibility for attack
A mosque preacher was shot dead in Yemen’s southern city of Aden on Tuesday, according to a local source.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the imam in al-Mansura area in the city, killing him on the spot, the source said, requesting anonymity due to security concerns.
There was no comment from local authorities in Aden on the attack, for which no group has yet claimed responsibility.
Tuesday’s killing came one day after former president Ali Abdullah Saleh was shot dead by Houthi rebels amid fighting between Houthis and loyalists of the former president in the capital Sanaa.
Yemen has been locked into civil war since 2014, when Houthi rebels overran Sanaa and much of the country, forcing the international recognized government to flee to Saudi Arabia.
