Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), which was established with the acceptance of the proposal made by Trabzon Deputy Mustafa Reşit Tarakçıoğlu and his 28 friends in the Turkish Grand National Assembly with the law numbered 6594 and dated 20 May 1955, is the first university established outside of Istanbul and Ankara.
Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), which was established with the acceptance of the proposal made by Trabzon Deputy Mustafa Reşit Tarakçıoğlu and his 28 friends in the Turkish Grand National Assembly with the law numbered 6594 and dated 20 May 1955, is the first university established outside of Istanbul and Ankara. Approximately eight years after its establishment, on September 19, 1963, the Faculty of Basic Sciences, Construction-Architecture, Machinery-Electricity and Forestry Faculties were established by giving Rectorate and Faculty staff with the law numbered 336. KTÜ started its education in the primary school building of Trabzon Atatürk Primary School in Esentepe District on December 2, 1963 and moved to its current central campus in 1966. Continuing its development, KTÜ has recruited the staff of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Medicine with the law numbered 1659 dated January 4, 1973. After the enactment of the Higher Education Law numbered 2547 in 1981, KTÜ has continued to grow continuously, and new faculties and departments have been opened accordingly. Today, 49 undergraduate and 36 associate degree programs in 12 faculties, 1 college, 8 vocational schools in KTU; 92 master's and 61 doctoral programs are conducted in 6 institutes.
