Journey from Dar'ül Fünun to Istanbul University

Among the events experienced today in history; Dar'ül Fünun, which can be described as the first step of the long-established higher education institution that serves as Istanbul University today, started its education life on January 14, 1863. The school, which first started its education life in Nuri Efendi Mansion in Çemberlitaş, was closed when the mansion burned down. After a while, it was reopened in 1870 in the tomb district. When it was founded in the early 19th century, it was based on teaching subjects not taught in madrasahs. Lower than university, education would be at the level of today's high schools. After the rehabilitation of primary (primary) schools and the establishment of high school (secondary) schools, the initiative of the darülfün was also undertaken. The Mekteb-i Maarif-i Adliye and Mekteb-i Fünun-ı Edebiye, which were opened in the same years, are among the schools established on the juniors. However, he specifies the name of the country in the next year at high school concept, the establishment of the University of Istanbul (1933) until there has been a corresponding term university in Turkey. The temporary education commission established in 1845, among the thoughts on the improvement of primary and junior high schools, advised the establishment of a tertiary school that would provide higher levels of information, train civil servants for government departments, teach all kinds of knowledge, open its doors to everyone, and educate students as boarders. Darülfünun was going to take students after 3 years of primary school and 2 years of high school education, the last-year programs of primary schools were among the first-year courses of the junior high schools and the last-year programs of the junior high schools. For Darülfünun, a higher school was needed to train students. For this reason, first Darülmaarif and then İdadiler were established. Meanwhile, the opening of the first Ottoman Darülfünunu was delayed until 1863.
