The school, which takes its name from the Vefa district where its campus is located in the Historical Peninsula, is the first civilian high school to teach in the mother tongue. In Turkey, 10, and 7 one in Istanbul, giving 5 years training together with foreign language preparatory education is one of the Anatolian high schools. Having completed the accreditation studies of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, the school was included in the IB World Schools list in June 2019 and started to give an IB-DP diploma with accreditation.
MODERN EDUCATION LIFE BEGINS IN THE 18th CENTURY
Until the 18th century in the Ottoman Empire, education was carried out in classical educational institutions such as neighborhood school and madrasah. However, in the 18th century, modern education life started with military higher education institutions. In the 19th century, various modern educational institutions were established irregularly in the field of primary education, including primary schools, secondary schools, high school, administrative (high school) and sultanî (high school + high school). The modern educational institutions, which were established irregularly, were connected to a system with the Regulation of Education, which was prepared in the period of Minister of Education Mehmed Esad Safvet Pasha in 1869. [6] According to this regulation, modern educational institutions; It is structured in three levels: primary education, secondary education and higher education. Primary education institutions are determined as neighborhood and primary schools, while the higher education institution is Darülfünun. Secondary education institutions, on the other hand, are structured in three types: high school, administrative and sultanic. The school type, which is the exact equivalent of today's high school type, is Idadiler. "The first civilian high school (Civil High School) to teach in the mother tongue" is today's Vefa High School, which was established as administrative classes within the "Mekteb-i Mülkiye" in 1872.
