Great increase in environmental water consumption in Konya
It was observed that there was a significant increase in the use of environmental water in Konya from 2016 to 2020.
It was observed that there was a significant increase in the use of environmental water in Konya from 2016 to 2020. According to the data received from KOSKİ; Noting that Meram, Karatay and Seljuk's water use has increased in the last four years, the Chamber of Landscape Architects Konya Provincial Representation Chairman Özcan Kuzu said, “While 3 million 400 thousand cubic meters of water was consumed in the central districts in 2019, consumption was 4 million 274 thousand cubic meters in 2020. . There is an increase of around 800 thousand cubic meters in environmental water consumption. "This is just the increase in the transition from 2019 to 2020".
Özcan Kuzu, Head of Konya Provincial Representation of the Chamber of Landscape Architects, gave information about Konya's use of environmental water and made recommendations. Noting that Meram, Karatay and Seljuk's use of water has increased in the last four years, Özcan Kuzu said, "According to the information obtained from KOSKİ; While 3 million 900 thousand cubic meters of water was used in Konya three years ago, now we have used 4 million 650 thousand cubic meters of water. So there is an increase of around 700 thousand cubic meters. Seljuk, Karatay and Meram spent 600 thousand cubic meters of water consumed. The remaining 28 districts experienced an increase of 100 thousand cubic meters in consumption. In most of our districts such as Hadim, Emirgazi and Çeltik, there is no environmental water consumption. When you remove these, our central districts make the most consumption of Konya in environmental irrigation. Therefore, we need to take an urgent measure covering the center, ”he said.
"WHAT IS THE INCREASE?"
Underlining the need to look at the reason for the increase in water consumption in Seljuk, Meram and Karatay, Kuzu said, “While 3 million 400 thousand cubic meters of water was consumed in central districts in 2019, consumption was 4 million 274 thousand cubic meters in 2020. In other words, there is an increase of around 800 thousand cubic meters. This is just the increase in the transition from 2019 to 2020. There is not that much increase in 2016-2017 and 2018. When we look at the rain regime, we received more than 350 millimeters of rainfall in 2016-2017 and 2018. 330 millimeters of rain fell in 2019, and 300 millimeters in 2020. Rainfall has reduced water consumption. The increase in consumption this year compared to the previous years is actually a harbinger of drought. That's why we have to collect the water. We also need to take the water we use in environmental irrigation and use it again. We save money if we use water in more than one place. On the other hand, if we cannot spend the water we store or plan where we will spend it, we will not be successful again ”.
'IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO BUILD A PARK FOR LANDSCAPE AREAS'
Referring to the fact that a landscape work is definitely carried out in every province, Kuzu said: “Landscape studies are also carried out in Konya, but it is not enough to build a park alone. The culture of life started to change. The parks we build always focus on thematic parks. Therefore, it loses its meaning to me. When we look at it as recreation areas, people think of a place with plenty of woods and plenty of woods where they can go outside and walk in tracksuits, jogging. Or our people go and light a barbecue when the park is built. People's needs should be addressed. Landscaping is not about planting two trees and making a barbecue under it. If you only assign this work to the municipalities, the number of parks that the municipalities will build per year will be determined. He can't get over it. For example, the reason why there is a lot of greenery on the Ankara road is that they care about the landscape project in planned areas since the 90s. While making a planning, the landscaping of the area is made necessarily. Citizens are also doing the places within their own borders, ”he said. Pointing out that the logic of the site is more in the city, Kuzu said, “If you are moving with the logic of the site while the city is expanding locally, you can organize it within the sites. Today, people do not look at a single block building when buying a house. If it is in need of the site, is it safe, is there a place where children can play, it is necessary to turn to these places. If you, as a local government, put a limit on this and put a cost into it, it will end up with the water shortage of today. If you leave this job to the initiative of people, you cannot provide plant diversity. If the landscape arrangement is evaluated in the construction sector, the needs change a little more. Because now the site logic is settled. It would be more accurate if we do the planning accordingly ”. Pointing to the importance of correct planning, Kuzu said, “If the right planning is done, we will not have water shortages and air pollution problems. We talk about places where people can breathe in terms of well-being. He concluded his words by saying that if a drip system was installed in the landscape areas, we would save on water use.
