EU leaders Tusk and Juncker wish to continue work with Turkish leader in security, migration and energy fields
European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Tuesday congratulated President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his victory in Sunday's elections.
The European leaders sent a joint letter to the Turkish president two days after the parliamentary and presidential elections in the country expressing their desire to work with Erdogan "closely".
"Let us congratulate you on your re-election as President of the Republic of Turkey. Turkey is a candidate country and key partner of the European Union. We look forward to continuing to work with you closely in areas of common interest for EU-Turkey relations such as security, migration and energy," said the statement.
Erdogan won an absolute majority in the presidential poll with 52.5 percent of the vote, while his main rival Muharrem Ince gathered 30.6 percent.
