COVID-19: Turkey records 1,549 more virus cases

Over 1,500 new coronavirus cases and more than 1,000 recoveries were reported in Turkey on Saturday.

In a tweet, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said 1,549 more infections have raised the country’s overall count to 267,064.

He said 1,003 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours, taking the total to 242,812.

The death toll increased by 39 to reach 6,284, the minister added.

A total of 101,414 more COVID-19 tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, pushing the total up to over 6.93 million.

According to the health ministry data, 7.4% of the total patients suffer from pneumonia, while the number of patients in critical condition stands at 917.

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed almost 838,500 lives in 188 countries and regions since last December.

The US, Brazil, India, and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 24.8 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries over 16.23 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
