Bombings in Iraq targeting Turkmens: ITF leader
Nearly all bomb attacks in Kirkuk have occurred in Turkmen neighborhoods, says Arshad Salihi
Recent bombings in Iraq’s oil-rich city of Kirkuk have targeted Turkmens, the leader of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) said late Thursday.
“As almost all of the explosions in Kirkuk have occurred in Turkmen neighborhoods, Turkmens have become the target,” Arshad Salihi said in a statement.
At least 10 people were injured Wednesday in four bombings in Kirkuk.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry condemned the bombings in a statement Thursday.
“We condemn the bomb attacks on Turkmen-populated neighborhoods of Kirkuk, including a children’s hospital,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy.
“The government of Iraq should take necessary security measures and foil internal and external groups aiming to destabilize Iraq by creating a new fait accompli in Kirkuk,” Aksoy added.
It is unknown who is responsible for the attacks.
