Five PKK terrorists were killed during a counterterrorism operation in southwestern Mugla province Thursday, according to police source.
The operation jointly carried out by police and gendarme in the province’s Koycegiz district, the source, who did not want to be named due to the restrictions on talking to the media, said.
A Turkish soldier was also lightly wounded, the source added.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
