15 killed in bus crash in western Turkey

A bus accident in western Turkey on Sunday claimed 15 lives, officials reported.

The bus, coming from the Black Sea province of Zonguldak, lost control and overturned on the Balikesir Highway en route to Edremit in the western Balikesir province.

Rescue and emergency teams were immediately dispatched, but 11 people died at the scene, and four later succumbed to injuries in hospital, despite doctors’ best efforts.

Visiting the injured, Balikesir Governor Hasan Sildak said that three of 17 people injured in the accident were discharged from hospital after treatment.

An investigation of the cause of the accident is underway.
